Des Moines, IA – A group of Iowa women will host a luncheon for April McClain-Delaney, wife of presidential candidate John Delaney, on Monday, January 14th at the River Center in Des Moines.  A staunch advocate for women and children, April McClain-Delaney has more than 25 years of communications law, regulatory affairs and child advocacy experience in both private sector and non-profit engagements. April currently serves as Washington Director and a board member of Common Sense Media. A full bio on April is copied below.

April has joined her husband, John, on several trips to the state including his visits to the Iowa State Fair and the 2018 Iowa Democratic Wing Ding. John Delaney has already campaigned in all 99 Iowa counties, the first Democratic candidate to do so since 2008. This week Delaney announced the hiring of key positions including senior staff and campaign Co-Chairs, Connie Klug and Paula Meyer. The Delaney campaign will open six new offices in Iowa this month.

April McClain-Delaney Biography

A strong advocate for women and children, April McClain-Delaney has more than 25 years of communications law, regulatory affairs, and child advocacy experience in both private sector and non-profit engagements.

April currently serves as Washington Director and a board member of Common Sense Media.  Prior to that she was assistant general counsel and a regulatory director at Orion Network Systems and an associate at the law firm of Cohn & Marks.

She is the past chair of the Board of Visitors of Georgetown Law Center, on the National Advisory Council for Northwestern University’s School of Communications, board member and Nominating Chair of the International Center for Research on Women, a past Vice-President of the Congressional (Families) Club, and a board member of the Sun Valley Community School.   Her policy work centers on digital citizenship issues (including tech addiction, privacy, and teen anxiety concerns) and how media messages to and empowers women.

April served on a healthy media commission task force, with the Meridian Center’s Women’s Leadership Council and is on the advisory board of Georgetown’s Women, Peace and Security Institute.   She is active on issues related to Congressional families including serving as co-chair of the Congressional Club’s First Lady’s Luncheon and three times co-chair of Congressional Spouse Events associated with the National Prayer Breakfast.

She holds a BS from Northwestern University and a JD from Georgetown Law Center, and is a member of the DC Bar and the Federal Communications Bar Association.  She is a Paul Dean Awardee of the law center, a Northwestern University Alumni Awardee, received the Patrice Wallace Caritas Service honor, and the Common-Sense Media Award.

The Delaneys have established an endowed chair in public interest law at Georgetown Law Center, a research chair at Northwestern University, and a research fellowship at the Women, Peace and Security Institute.

April and her husband Congressman John Delaney live in Potomac, Maryland and have four daughters.
