“Trade policy delivered in 280 characters makes us look foolish and is the wrong way to deter China’s bad behavior.”
FRIENDSHIP HEIGHTS, MD – John Delaney releases the following statement:
“President Trump’s trade war is reckless and irresponsible. Trump’s tariff fight has been a drag on our economy, especially for agriculture and has led to a wave of bankruptcies across the Heartland. Trade policy delivered in 280 characters makes us look foolish and is the wrong way to deter China’s bad behavior. The truth is by pulling out of the Trans-Pacific Partnership – a move which just about every 2020 Democrat supported and loudly championed – we significantly weakened our leverage with China and now we are trying to negotiate with a much weaker hand. It turns out that the Trump/Sanders/Warren trade policy doesn’t work.
The President should rejoin the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a move that would completely turn the tables on China and end this unnecessary tariff war. We have real issues with China economically and geopolitically and it is obvious that the President is struggling to address them.”
